About the producer

Andrés Guaca, a third-generation coffee producer, owns the Guacobia farm with his wife and two sons. Five years ago, Andrés made a change towards specialty coffees and started improving post-harvest practices, with controlled and experimental fermentations. On his 5-hectare farm and his brother's, he started planting more exotic differentiated varieties like Pink Bourbon, Pacamara, Geisha,... His eldest son is already in love with coffee production, and his dream is to be an agronomist and continue the development of the farm.

About the terroir

It is in the heart of Acevedo, a Colombian eastern cordillera in the Huila region, that Andrés' plantations have been located for the last 6 years. This former red zone dominated by the M19 and FARC in the past, is now known as the “paradise of Colombian specialty coffee” thanks to its different microclimates and terroirs. It is also famous for being the “birthplace” of Pink Bourbon.

History of the “Pink Bourbon”

Pink Bourbon is an exotic variety that has appeared in Colombia in recent years, more precisely in the Huila region, in the southwest of the country. The product of a rare hybridization between “Red” and “Yellow Bourbon”, this variety is particularly appreciated for its finesse and aromatic complexity. This coffee stands out in every respect, from the bright pink color of its ripe cherries to the sweet and complex profile of its beans. Yet, even under ideal growing conditions, Pink Bourbon is very difficult to cultivate. In addition to the meticulous maintenance of the plants, farmers must isolate their crops to promote successful cross-pollination and the continuous production of pink fruits. The harvest also requires increased diligence, which prompts coffee growers to look for the subtle nuances of color that allow them to distinguish ripe cherries from those that are not. Elegant and balanced, with sweet floral tones, this coffee offers a truly surprising cup profile.
